About kidfun.us

kidfun.us is an independent, ad-free guide to free and low-cost things to do with kids around Houston. We're not a 100-listing directory — we cover a focused set of places and check the practical details against each venue's official source, so what you read is what you'll find when you get there.

How we verify

Every venue page is built the same way, and the steps are deliberately boring — that's the point:

  • Start from the official source. Hours, prices, ages and rules come from the venue's own website, the city/county parks department, or the operator — not from another blog.
  • Date-stamp it. Each guide shows when it was last reviewed. Things change, so the date tells you how fresh the check is.
  • Say what we don't know. If a venue doesn't publish a price or a slide count, we write "—" rather than guess. We'd rather leave a blank than print something wrong.
  • Flag what changes. Seasonal hours and prices move constantly, so we link out to the official site and tell you to confirm before you travel.
  • Note the real-world stuff. Where to park, the calmest hour, whether socks are required, what closed after Hurricane Harvey — the details you only learn by paying attention.

Independent & ad-free

We don't run ads, pop-ups or autoplay video, we don't take payment for inclusion or for a better write-up, and we're not affiliated with the venues we cover. There's nothing standing between you and the answer. If we ever add affiliate links or sponsorships in the future, we'll disclose them clearly — see our Terms and Privacy Policy.

About the photos

We're an independent guide and don't yet have first-party photos of every venue, so we're upfront about what each image is. Stock photos are clearly labelled "symbolic" — they set the mood but may not show the exact place. For specific named venues we use real, openly-licensed photos (e.g. Creative Commons via Wikimedia Commons) and credit the photographer. Every image source is listed on our image credits page.

Who writes kidfun.us

kidfun.us is written and maintained by a small, Houston-based editorial team of parents who actually take their own kids to these places. The voice is intentionally practical and first-hand: we'd rather warn you that the animal enclosure closed years ago than pad a page with filler. We review venues against their official sources and update pages as things change.

Have a venue we should cover, a correction, or want to know more about who's behind a particular guide? Get in touch — we read every message.
