On the edge of Memorial Park, the Houston Arboretum offers five miles of free, mostly-flat nature trails through forest, pond and prairie habitats — an easy, calm outing for stroller-age kids and a classic Houston preschool field trip.

The hands-on Nature Center has exhibits little ones can touch. Admission and parking are free; go early to beat the heat and to spot the most wildlife.

Frequently asked
